137 7662 Former Oakland Raiders assistant coach Randy Hanson sued head coach Tom Cable and the Raiders Tuesday for damages suffered during a training camp fight that left Hanson with a fractured jaw and broken teeth. Hanson's lawsuit, filed in Alameda County Superior Court, accuses Cable of assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.  The suit says that during an Aug. 5 coaches meeting, Cable "without warning or provocation" threw Hanson against a wall, causing the left side of his face to hit a table, then hit Hanson while he was on the floor.  It also states that after Cable was restrained by other coaches he threatened to kill Hanson. Hanson said he was told that he wasn't allowed to attend home games and was banned from parts of the building where the coaches and players worked.  He said he was told those conditions would last for four weeks, but the lawsuit claims that Raiders owner Al Davis told Hanson on Dec. 28 that he would no longer be allowed to coach.  Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein announced in October that Cable would not face charges due to inconsistencies in Hanson's statement that were not corroborated by three assistant coaches who were in the room.  Cable and the Raiders were not immediately available for comment. 207.237.160.143

109 7510 The Oakland Raiders reached agreement Tuesday morning with potential free agent kicker Sebastian Janikowski on a four-year, $16 million contract that includes $9 million in guaranteed money, sources said. <o:p> </o:p> According to league sources, it is the richest kicking contract in NFL history. He is considered to have one of the strongest kicking legs in the NFL, and leads the league in kickoffs for touchbacks. <o:p> </o:p> Janikowski was arguably the top free agent kicker in this year’s market, but now that is a moot point as he will remain with the Raiders.   <o:p> </o:p> Other notable free-agent kickers that are expected to be available include the <st1:place w:st="on">Bengal</st1:place>’s Shayne Graham and the New York Jets' Jay Feely. <o:p> </o:p> Janikowski was drafted by the Raiders in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft. 201 6998 It's tough to take a loss at the end of the year because we felt that as a team we were making great strides. It was another game where we bounced back after falling behind early so at least we can take that away from the experience. Raider teams in the past might have given up at that point, but not this one.<o:p></o:p>  I don't know if I'll watch the playoffs. Sometimes I do but it makes me mad and jealous sometimes too. I don't like that other teams are playing and we're not. What I'm most looking forward to is going home to <st1:state w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Florida</st1:place></st1:state> to see my friends and family. It'll be nice to be able to sleep in for the first time in a while too. I'll probably go to Burger King and get a triple Whopper. Man I might even get two.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I'll only take a couple weeks off so I'll make sure to eat what I want during that time. At the end of January I'll start back with the weights and getting back in shape. We don't report back until March but it's important to stay moving and active during the time off we do get. Most guys get in the gym pretty quick after the season ends to get their cardio work in on the treadmill.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> It's hard to say that this was a successful season when you look at our 5-11 record, but our five wins this year are much better than our five wins last year. We lost a lot of games late but we were always fighting. We beat four teams that ended up with winning records. I think we went from a team that our opponents saw as an automatic win to a team that they have to take seriously. We take a lot of pride in being a tough opponent.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I'm a firm believer that you have to go through the tough times in order to get to the top. Since I've been here we've been through the worst. All be can do is build up as quick as we can but also understand that it's a process. If we can just find a way to make that big play in some of those close games we know that we could be a playoff team. We have the guys to do it.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Five wins may seem like an inconsistent team from the outside, but one thing that was consistent was effort and hard work. 165 6800 People see our record and they assume we have nothing to play for. That is definitely not the case. First of all we have the Ravens coming in fighting for their playoff lives. If they win they're in, so we know that they are going to throw everything they have at us. We would love to play spoiler. If we are able to come out on top then that would be five playoff-caliber teams that we beat this year. That would give us a spark going into next year knowing that we can play with anyone.<o:p></o:p>  Another thing we have to play for is something more personal for our team. If we can get to six wins that would be the most we've had since 2002. A lot of the veterans here haven't seen six wins in a long time and we want to get that for them. We aren't gonna be in the Super Bowl this year, but that doesn't mean we can't strive for improvement on a smaller scale.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The big story this week in the NFL was the Colts' decision to rest its starters instead of going for 16-0. At first I thought it was kinda weird, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. They had already set the record for most consecutive regular season wins and most wins in the decade, so those are two pretty good records right there. Going 16-0 is nice, but 16-0 doesn't win you a Super Bowl.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> On a personal note, it's gonna be hard for me to see Coach Bowden go after the Gator Bowl. It hurts me a lot that he isn't gonna be coaching anymore. It just feels weird. When you think of <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Florida</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">State</st1:placetype></st1:place> you immediately think of him. The thing I'll remember most about him is how much he cares about his players. People think that because he's had so many players over the years that he wouldn't remember me, but the last time I saw him he asked me how my grandmother was and he knows my mother. That's huge for me that he remembers me and my family. I got a chance to sit down with him for 15 minutes or so when I was a senior. 183 6648 We were in another close game through three quarters, but the Redskins struck quick in the fourth to put us behind the eight ball. We were down 10 and it's real hard for our offense to have to put up big points quickly. We play much better when we have a lead and just try to bleed the clock running the ball, which is what we do best.<o:p></o:p>  I didn't have an especially good game and the O-line gave up some sacks. Not that everything was our fault, but we have to accept the blame for how things went. Once they got a lead on us they just drained the clock like they're supposed to.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> We're probably gonna be without Gradkowski at QB because he hurt his knee Sunday, but regardless of who's back there the number one thing will be to get some points early and play from in front.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Now we have the Broncos who come in fighting for a spot in the playoffs. This game is important to us for several reasons. First of all it's a big-time rivalry and second it's a chance to hurt their playoff chances. As a team that's out of the playoff race it is still fun to try and play spoiler, especially for a hated rival. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I'll be matched up with Elvis Dumervil who I think leads the league in sacks right now. He is a real tough guy to block because he's so small but he is also extremely powerful for his size. You can't just play to his quickness because then he'll beat you with a bull rush. You have to be ready for everything with him. I think he gets a lot of his sacks because people underestimate his strength. Hopefully we can stop him and maybe that will make it easier to take the Broncos down.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> We don't like them and they don't like us. 1347 6573      Before I begin, I must warn you, this is not an article that Oakland Raider fans will enjoy, that is, unless blunt honesty is your thing. If you are unlucky enough to be a part of their fanbase, ya know, the group of people that owner Al Davis could not care less about, you might as well exit this page right now. There are no untruths in this piece, but that doesn’t make it any more pleasant to read. Nothing in this entire article is even remotely positive. Consider yourself warned.       Coming off a “big” win against an overrated <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Pittsburgh</st1:place></st1:city> team, who is now 6-7, a week ago Sunday, the Raiders had high hopes for this week when they hosted the 3-9 Washington Redskins (now 4-9). Dreams of a winning streak took the place of sugar plums dancing in their heads, or was it the other way around? Yeah, that’s it, they lost focus. Whatever the excuse, the ‘Skins came in and handed <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Oakland</st1:place></st1:city> a world class beat down, 34-13. <o:p> </o:p>      It could have been worse though. Entering the fourth quarter, it was only 17-13 in favor of the visitors. It didn’t help that career backup-turned-starter Bruce Gradkowski went down with not one, but two injured knees (where’s the flag ref?) paving the way for that other guy to come in and, again, embarrass himself and Al Davis for drafting him then repeatedly sticking up for him, all while being sacked six times in the second half alone (four by rookie Michael Orakpo). Not surprisingly, JaMarcus was showered with boos, and that was coming from a crowd who is used to watching its team suck on a weekly/yearly basis. How do you do it Raider fans? Oh, and you will all be happy to hear, Mr. Russell is unwilling to restructure his contract, i.e. take a pay cut, a la Alex Smith across the bay. Surprise, surprise, he’s greedy and can’t play football; he fits right in with big Al. <o:p> </o:p>      Oh, what could have been. The Raiders had to have been feeling good about themselves, especially after downing the Bengals (7-2 at the time) and Steelers, sandwiched around a loss to the mighty Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Again, thanks for that awesome game Roger (and I had to go to my in-laws, my favorite day ever!). Look at the bright side, going 1-2 in the final three games is a possibility. Games at <st1:city w:st="on">Denver</st1:city> (loss), then at <st1:city w:st="on">Cleveland</st1:city> (toss up), followed by the season finale in <st1:city w:st="on">Oakland</st1:city> against <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Baltimore</st1:place></st1:city> (loss). Hey, at least they’ll get a decent draft pick. Use it wisely, because your 2011 first-rounder is *poof* gone. <o:p> </o:p>      Everyone in the world knows what’s wrong with the Raiders. The problem is that the person who is responsible for the ginormous mess simply doesn’t care. His pockets are still being stuffed full of money. Fans continue to buy anything and everything with the Raider logo on it (why, I will never understand). Thank God for gangs, right? <o:p> </o:p>      The 2002 Super Bowl appearance seems like decades ago. They have been the league’s worst team since (28-81, .345 win %), and arguably the worst franchise in sports during that span, not winning more than five games in any of the past six, now seven seasons. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, as much as I despise the Raiders, the fans of this once proud franchise deserve better. Unfortunately, until the Silver and Black are rid of Al Davis, nothing will change, heck, if it is possible, it may even get worse. Maybe it is time to abandon the ship(wreck). 76.97.188.228

180 6518 That game against the Steelers was ridiculous. I think it was an even bigger win for us than the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Cincinnati</st1:city></st1:place> game because we scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. It was back and forth for 15 minutes straight pretty much. Louis Murphy caught a 75-yard TD to put us up three, then they scored on their first play to go up by four. Then we scored to go up three, but then they scored to go up by four with less than two minutes left. <o:p></o:p>  Every time we sat down on the sidelines we heard their crowd cheering and we knew we had to go do it again. We had to drive the length of the field in <st1:time w:st="on" hour="13" minute="30">1:30</st1:time> and that's hard to do against anyone, let alone the Steelers in their place.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Gradkowski and Murphy have developed a really nice relationship on the field. Their timing is really good right now and they have confidence in one another that each will be where they're supposed to be. You look at all the great quarterback/receiver combos in the league and they all have that confidence factor.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The Steelers really needed that win for their playoff chances, but we come into every game trying to win. We're not gonna just let them win because they have a chance at the playoffs and we don't. Now we have a Redskins team that is pretty similar to us. They started off the year real slow on offense just like us but they have been great offensively lately. They have one of the best front fours in the NFL, so it will definitely be a challenge for our O-line. It will be important to jump out quick and get a lead. We can't expect to win every game with late comebacks.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Our goal right now is just to win two in a row. If we can do that I think we will change from a team that hopes to win to a team that expects to win. 175 6370 I didn't get a chance to blog after our crazy win against the Bengals because we had to get ready for a game on Thanksgiving, but I have to talk about that for a minute. That was great. I have never been a part of something so crazy. A fumble on the kickoff?<o:p></o:p>  We squibbed it so I figured they would just take a knee. I was over on the bench prepping for overtime when I heard everybody yelling. I was like, “what's going on?” When I found out we had the ball I didn't know what was going on. I tried to walk out on the field with someone else's helmet. That was a big win against a team that's probably going to make the playoffs. It felt good.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> It's hard to say what wasn't working against <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Dallas</st1:city></st1:place> on Thanksgiving, but we just fell behind early and before we knew it we were down 10-0. You can't fall behind against good teams and win in this league.  We didn't play well, but it was still a lot of fun to play on Thanksgiving. I remember watching everybody play when I was growing up, so it was an honor.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> That stadium in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Dallas</st1:city></st1:place> isn't just the best stadium in sports, I would go so far as to say it's one of the best buildings I have ever seen, period. There are two bars in the tunnel where people are standing right next to you as you walk out onto the field. People get to be right next to the action almost. It's great. That jumbotron, man. That thing is just ridiculous. I want to play some Call of Duty on that thing.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I haven't been able to spend Thanksgiving with my family for a few years, so I've gotten used to not being there on that day. Dinner for me was a Quizno's sandwich. 598 6285 After 11 games this season, does Al Davis' decision to take WR Darrius Heyward-Bey with the #7 pick overall paint him as the wacky professor who some of his few remaining fans thought he was?  Or, does it just make him look wacky, like the rest of us thought?  <div>The NFL should institute new fines for owners who make dumb moves and pool the money into discount tickets for the fans of their respective organizations. Bud Adams recently made it known that they already have fines for owners who do stupid things, and that money goes to the more-than-worthy humanitarian causes represented by The Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund, The Vincent T. Lombardi Cancer Research Center, The ALS Neuromuscular Research Foundation, and The NFLPA Player Assistance Trust. Still, the fans need a way to help mitigate their own suffering whenever an owner does irreparable damage to their favorite team.</div> <div> </div> <div>Just consider one of the many blunders Al Davis has committed in recent years, leaving the once great Oakland Raiders as the laughing stock of the NFL. His choices to hire and fire coaches, to limit their ability to make significant decisions about staff and personnel, and his choices on draft picks should all be major fines to the benefit of the fans. He should also receive smaller fines for all the drama and trauma that the manifestation of his decisions have created for the organization.</div> <div> </div> <div>While other organizations should be somewhat grateful for Davis’ inability to get solid coaching candidates even to interview there, his seemingly goofy decisions often have adverse affects on more than just his own team. No bigger blunder stands out more than his first round pick this year, and now that we are heading into week 13 of the season, the numbers clearly affirm what most everyone already believed—picking wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey with the seventh pick in the draft was outrageously silly.</div> <div> </div> <div>Forget the fact that Michael Crabtree was clearly the best WR available in the draft, and just consider the fact that all five of the other WR’s who were selected in the first round all have far better numbers in their first year than second-round guy, with a few of the experts leaning toward a possible late first-round. His 4.3 forty-yard dash at the combine is what increased his value, but certainly not enough to vault him into the 7th pick by any reasonable person’s assessment. After three years of college at Maryland, he only had 2,089 yards receiving on 138 catches with 13 TD’s. Compare that to Crabtree’s two years at Texas Tech in which he delivered 3,127 yards on 231 catches for 41 TD’s. The Raiders’ organization apparently wanted to discount those numbers as well as the fact that Crabtree is the only two-time winner of the Biletnikoff Award, given to the best college receiver in the county each year.</div> <div> </div> <div>Currently, Heyward-Bey has only nine catches in the NFL after 11 games. He has been targeted for passes 40 times and has managed to come down with just nine. That means he has caught less than 23% of the passes thrown to him. If you have seen a Raiders game this year, you have probably seen him drop a ball or two. On the other hand, Crabtree has been targeted 44 times and has come down with 26 of those, or 65%. That’s 65% of the passes thrown in his direction. Jeremy Maclin of the Eagles is another solid prospect the Raiders could have went with even though he is a little smaller than Crabtree or Heyward-Bey. He has caught 63% of the passes thrown his way this year and has 4 TD’s to show for it.</div> <div> </div> <div>Those who are still willing to defend Davis and the Raiders’ organization will claim that Heyward-Bey is a victim of the lack of a passing game for the Raiders. But, if the addition of a WR was not going to help the passing game, perhaps they shouldn’t have wasted a pick on a receiver after all, especially when they could have easily picked up an equally-talented one in the later rounds. After all, while Maclin plays on an Eagles team that has relied rather heavily on the pass this year, Crabtree is playing on a 49ers team that is still trying to settle on a QB to hand Frank Gore the ball for the majority of plays. Apparently, Singletary is finally realizing what an asset he has in Crabtree and the passing game is making a renaissance, at least on the west side of The Bay.</div> <div> </div> <div>Ultimately, Al Davis’ decision to draft Heyward-Bey adversely affected Crabtree, Maclin, the 49ers, and the Raiders. The Raiders signed a deal with Heyward-Bey for five years and 23.5 million, with the potential to get 38.25 million with incentives, or 7.65 million a year. As a result, the 49ers were looking at being able to get the talented Crabtree for a steal, offering some 14 million dollars less as the number 10 pick in the draft. Fans often put the majority of fault in holdouts on the players themselves, and that does seem to be a logical inclination.</div> <div> </div> <div>Unfortunately, such deals are far more complicated than just one player’s desire or lack of desire to play. The outcome of those monetary negotiations impact agents, other organizations, and other position players. Al Davis’ willingness to waste his money and keep his organization mired in losing cost several more talented WR’s money in this year’s draft. And, it would have cost Crabtree considerably more money than he ended up losing, if not for his holdout. In the end, his holdout earned him an extra 8 million dollars in his contract. Did he have a shot at the rookie of the year if he had played all year?—definitely not on the run-focused 49ers, but then again, none of the other WR’s drafted in the first round have much of a shot either.</div> <div> </div> Ever play blackjack at a table with a player who has no idea what he is doing? He keeps taking cards when he shouldn’t, happily and ignorantly going bust, leaving the cards you and others could use wasted on the table. Such players should get fined. Too bad there are no fines for draft ignorance in the NFL either. Never play blackjack at a table with Al Davis; 276 6047 I think that because we lost the game to the Chargers in week 8 people think that it's the same old thing with the Raiders. No one looks at the fact that it was a close game for the second time this year against them. They didn't blow us out. The fact that it was a close game shows that we can play, we just aren't getting over that hump yet.<o:p></o:p>  We made mistakes in the game, there's no question about it. That's the most frustrating thing. If we could just correct the things that we know we're doing wrong we could start winning some games. We gave up five sacks and that isn't going to work if we want to win. Besides running the ball, the O-line takes pride in protecting our quarterback and we didn't do that.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The bye came at a great time for us. We had a lot of guys injured and we should have some of them back when we face the Chiefs on Sunday. It also gave everybody a chance to refresh their mind and heal up mentally too. During the season it can get a little repetitive and the guys need some time with their families.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> It also helps refuel my love of the game. I was looking forward to the bye to rest up, but after being away from football for two days I missed it and was ready to get back out there and work.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Our team is dealing with some off the field stuff right now but we aren't making that an excuse. In the past we might say that some of that stuff is to blame for why we're not playing well, but we're owning up to our mistakes on the field. The coaches are doing a good job of keeping us focused on football. 194 6041 L.A.'s bid to lure a NFL team is getting closer. Al Davis has been mocked and scolded for being a dummy.   The truth is Al Davis has out smarted us all. When Al Davis took his franchise to Los Angeles in 1983, he was promised luxury boxes at the Colisuem. This promise would be broken. Al Davis then looked to have a new venue built in the Los Angeles area. More promises and more in activity would follow.   Al Davis would then take his Raiders back up North, Davis proclaimed it was because how loyal the Raider fans in Oakland were. This had nothing to do with it. Davis's deception was masterful. Oakland bought his story and became at his mercy. The city would shell out millions to Al Davis for bringing his team back.     Al came back because he could get millions and have a venue to play in, until L.A. begs for pro football to come back.   The move to Oakland has made Al rich and he has used every penny and milked the fans out of millions. The fans of Oakland being naive sold themselves like a prostitute to Al.   Los Angeles has not any pro football for over 14 years. The NFL is now on its knees begging teams to move there. Enter Al Davis's masterful plan. Los Angeles and its city leaders have approved a stadium in the City of Industry.  The leaders have announced several teams that they are scouting. The Raiders are one of them.   Al Davis owns the rights to Los Angeles. No team moves to L.A. without his permission.   Al knew L.A. would eventually crawl back to him. Al has been running the Raider franchise into the ground for a reason. The Raiders do not sell out and average 35,000 for each home game. And Cable's bullying has helped this cause and has angered the community even more.   Oakland city leaders are embarassed and could care less if this team left- heck they want this circus to bail.     The Raiders lease is up in 2010.   Once again Al Davis will get his stadium in L.A. 146 5755      Forget about my dislike for the Raiders. Forget about your dislike for the Raiders. Forget about the circus that is the Raiders, including their silly ring leader, Al Davis. Remember back in training camp, when Oakland head coach, Tom Cable, allegedly attacked assistant Randy Hanson? The drama is over. Okay, drama may not be the right word. I saw more drama on last week's episode of House. In any case, Napa County DA Gary Lieberstein, held a press conference to announce that his office will not file criminal charges stemming from an August 5th dispute between Tom Cable and Randy Hanson at a Napa hotel.       This is just another case of he said, he said. I understand the outcome and I don't have a problem with no charges being filed. Maybe he is innocent in all of this, I don't know and I don't care but I still can't help seeing the entire situation as ridiculous, and, frankly, trivial. Everyone from the DA in charge of this case, to Tom Cable, to the three witnesses, to Randy Hanson himself, have failed as human beings in my eyes.        It may come as a shock, but I'm not a district attorney. Never have been, never will be (never say never, it could happen). I have no personal experience with the law, check that, I can tell you what a traffic citation looks like, but that's it. Fear not my friends, that will not stop me from having an opinion about this charade, but you knew that.        I understand that we reserve the right to “plead the fifth” when the law comes knocking on our door, but if you are innocent, why not give a statement? I have never understood that. At no time, did Tom Cable conduct an interview with the DA's office. Cable's only response, when asked about the investigation, was, I trust the legal system. I call BS. I think he trusted that the other three assistants in the room feared for their jobs if they let the truth slip, but that's just me.        From what I've read (don't believe everything you read, kids), Randy Hanson has a history of being belligerent. Lane Kiffin suspended him and even tried to fire him before being canned himself. Al Davis made sure Hanson finished the season and brought him back during the offseason only weeks prior to announcing Cable as head coach. Hanson also failed to report this incident to police until a month later, making it impossible for police to search the hotel room for physical evidence to support his claims (as if they would've found anything other than a few pieces of teeth and maybe a drop or two of Randy's blood). That said, he still walked into that hotel room with a structurally sound mandible and walked out the door with a fracture and some broken teeth. I've had some rough nights, but nothing like that.        The Napa DA's office determined, through interviews, that no punches or threats were made and that Hanson had fallen off of a chair resulting in the injury. How it all happened seems a little cloudy to me though. The following is the DA's version of what went down. To make the long story short: Tom Cable got mad and went after Hanson. An assistant jumped between the two children to prevent fireworks, which are illegal in Napa County. Tommy bumped into the assistant who, in turn, bumped Hanson, thus knocking him off his chair. Tom Cable then grabbed Randy by the shirt (was it a hug? Was he trying to help him up? Or was he going in for the kill?), but according to witnesses (the assistant coaches), who conveniently happen to be on the Raider payroll (but surely that would have no bearing on the truth), never threatened or physically harmed him. Tommy must have been whispering sweet nothings in Randy's ear.        We will never know what really happened in that room, and it sounds like Randy Hanson never will either. In his press conference, the DA said, and I quote: Something happened, but even he doesn't know how it happened. I don't even think he (referring to Hanson) has a good idea. Ouch. A busted jaw and now amnesia? Tom Cable must have used some very strong words, because he surely never physically harmed him. Not even after grabbing him by the collar (straight from the DA's mouth) while infuriated, which never leads to violence.        A question was posed to the district attorney, during his press conference, if the Raiders holding training camp in Napa had any bearing on the investigation. Lieberstein explained that he is the district attorney for the county of Napa, not just the city, and that he is not swayed by any fiscal benefits Oakland brings the area when they go camping. If anyone believes this, go play on the highway. Maybe no one specifically told him not to press charges because of the income brought in by fans, players, coaches, and the like, during training camp, but I can assure you that there was mention of it, even if only from Jiminy Cricket. Just for the record, an NFL training camp has got to greatly boost a city's economy right? I wish I had the monetary figures to prove it.      Like I said, I don't know if Cable did it. I don't care one way or the other. I just think the way this entire investigation played out is a black eye on our criminal justice system, but then again, it always is in a high profile case. Double standards? You bet, but that's how they roll. Lieberstein said he's been working in that office (not as the DA) for 25+ years, yet he sounded like a novice at his press conference. Granted, he surely does not deal with many high profile cases such as this one, but I expected more. My Dad can throw around more big words than my boy Lieb's, but that doesn't make him qualified to be an attorney, let alone of an entire district.      It is over. Done. The Oakland Raiders can finally focus on football again, which is never a good thing these days. Phew. We can get back to focusing on players making absurd statements, like Seymour guaranteeing a playoff berth this year (have you ever heard a funnier statement?) instead of coaches engaging in a verbal spat (which, chances are, is all it was). Personally, if I was Tom Cable, I'd have begged for an orange jumpsuit and a jail cell just to escape <strike>the sinking ship</strike> Oakland. 98.210.107.191

524 5753 Nobody gave us a chance Sunday against the Eagles. Nobody. Everybody counted us out, saying we can’t win. The Eagles are a good team and we beat them. It shows that we’re not as bad as everyone seems to think we are.<o:p></o:p>  Our front four on D are as good as anyone in the league and they put pressure on McNabb all day. I think they sacked him six times. I would compare them with the front four of the Giants. Our D-Coordinator kept putting the pressure on and that was huge for us to come up with the W. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Louis Murphy made one of the best highlights you will ever see in that game. I was watching the play from behind and I saw #18 throw a huge block and it was one of the best I think I have ever seen. I was kinda blocked out after that so I figured somebody caught Zach Miller a little further down, but then I see #18 making another block and I was like “are you serious?” When we watched it in the film room everybody was yelling and cheering, it was amazing. I have never seen anything like that. At the same time it didn’t really surprise us though. Louis has so much energy and intensity and we see it every day in practice. He’s always wired and ready to hit somebody.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> That play went for 86 yards and it was really inspiring to the team. When you see a guy make a play like that it makes you want to do the same for your team. He put his body on the line three different times on that play and allowed it to go for a touchdown. As a football player you crave that feeling that you did everything for your team.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> That wasn’t the only highlight that had us laughing in the film room though. That bird that helped us on kick coverage was pretty funny too. It was crazy. He stayed in his lane and everything.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Now we get a Jets team that started off with three wins but have lost three straight. We have to have that same intensity we had against Philly. We need to get on a win streak. 695 5518 It's been a long week for us after traveling to <st1:city w:st="on">Houston</st1:city> then coming back before heading to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:state w:st="on">New York</st1:state></st1:place> to face the Giants this week. And we didn't play well at all in our last game against the Texans. I think a lot of it rests on us on the O-Line. <o:p></o:p>  I wouldn't say that we didn't play hard, but we just made a lot of mistakes. We watched film and you could see that maybe four guys did everything right and one guy made a mistake and as an offensive line all five guys have to do their job or it can't work. This week we have been practicing a lot on knowing our assignments and following through.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> A lot of it has to do with us, but it's hard to pinpoint one specific thing that is responsible for our struggles. It trickles down from every position.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I've had reporters coming up to me all week asking about JaMarcus and why he isn't playing better and all this stuff, but I tell them that the guy is doing everything right in order to try and get better. He gets there early, works hard, watches film and leaves later than everybody else. When a team struggles everybody looks at the quarterback, but at the same time we aren't doing much to help him out right now.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The emphasis has to be on starting quicker out of the gates. A good pass-rushing team like Houston is gonna just sit back in Cover 4 and blitz us all day when they know we have to throw when we're down early. We need to establish the run to get JaMarcus more time back there.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Darren McFadden is out 2-4 weeks, but we are confident in our two guys that will go out there for us. The problem for Darren is that we aren't playing well enough to get him more involved in the offense. We need to play better on offense so that we can get him 20 carries instead of 10.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> We are playing a really good Giants team this weekend and this game can really make or break us I think. Their defense is good enough that if we don't show up and play well they will embarrass us. So we can either go out there and get embarrassed or we can play tough and show that we can be a good team.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Of course we want to win the game, but if we can go out there and show that we're the good team that I know we can be it will be a step in the right direction.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Mario Henderson is an offensive lineman with the Oakland Raiders. 487 5310 It definitely wasn't the prettiest of games but a win is a win. We were able to come out with the win this time, but we can't play like that and expect to win. We got a lot of work to. A lot of work. I think what it comes down to is that we just need to start faster on offense. <o:p></o:p>  We played hard, but we weren't together on our assignments early on. Luckily we came back this time but we can't keep doing that.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> We owe this game to Michael Huff. He was huge. His first interception came towards the end of the first half when the Chiefs were getting ready to score. He pulled out a big turnover in the red zone and instead of them getting seven points we marched down the field and were able to get three. That was a huge momentum swing. It was probably the key to winning that game. It was a total momentum killer for them too. <o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> He deflected a couple passes and put on some big hits too. If I had a game ball to give I would give it to him.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> We couldn't get anything going on the ground or through the air, but we knew it would be a tough game. Nobody in this league is good enough to just go out there and do what they want to by showing up. You have to work. We just need to keep working.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> JaMarcus had a tough game in terms of his numbers, but one thing he showed me is that he is poised. He showed that when he's behind in the 4th quarter that he can lead his team. During the game-winning drive he threw some of his best passes as a Raider.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> It would be unbelievable to start the year 2-1 in the division. The fact that we have a chance to do that makes us even hungrier. We have to work on starting faster in practice this week. Start fast and stay up tempo. Someone, anyone, close to Al Davis please convince him that the game has passed him by, and he should step down. Senility has set in and he is hurting the team tremendously. The decisions Al has made going back to benching Marcus Allen for an entire season, then trading him to your ARCH RIVALS. How crazy was that? I have been a diehard Raiders fan for more than 30 years. I was born in Oakland and have always followed and supported the Silver and Black. As long as Al Davis is associated with the Raiders they will continue to struggle as an organization. A recent article in Forbes listed the NFL Team Values. Dallas was number one with a net worth of 1.6 billion, and guess who was last? You guessed it, the Raiders, with a net worth of $797 million, well below the league average of 1.04 billion. It didn't surprise me at all. Al must go if the Raiders have a chance to get back to being a respectable team. "Chuckie" (John Gruden) had the Raiders on the right track and was responsible for the Raiders last Super Bowl appearance, even though he coached the opponent. Because Al Davis could not push Gruden around, he fired him. Another in a long line of foolish decisions by the Raiders controversial owner. And his display on national television after firing Lane Kiffin was an embarrassment to every Raider fan. We could only shake our collective heads in dismay as we watched Al make a total FOOL of himself. Please, Mr. Davis, you have had your hey-day, your day in the sun. Your era was Chuck Noll, Tom Landry, Don Shula. They all left when it was time to go (with the exception of Tom Landry, Jerry Jones fired him, God rest Landry's soul). 633 5173 We didn’t win Monday night so that’s not a good feeling, but I think as a team we overcame some things that held us down in the past.When we got down late we didn’t just get down and give up, we fought back and came up just short. I still couldn’t fall asleep until about 4 a.m. because I was thinking about what I could have done differently that might have changed the outcome. I woke up at about 7. <o:p> </o:p> Rookie receiver Louis Murphy had a great first NFL game. He had a touchdown but should have had two. I thought the first one that got overturned was a touchdown. He had two feet down in the end zone with control of the ball. I think that might have been depressing for him at the time. It was his first touchdown in the NFL. It was like getting a birthday present and right as you’re about to unwrap it someone comes and takes it away from you.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> He got another one later and I was so happy for him. It didn’t shock any of us that he played so well though. He was great all training camp and in practice<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I think we as an O-line played great. We allowed only one sack and we almost doubled the Chargers on the ground. After Michael Bush’s touchdown to start the game I got real excited. I walked up to the Black Hole and told everybody to get crunk. I doubt they could hear me though. They were already going pretty crazy down there.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The game showed that we can play with anybody and that we aren’t gonna be just an easy W for anyone.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> Richard Seymour brings so much to this team in terms of not only talent, but also leadership. When you have a guy who won Super Bowls and has been to the Pro Bowl it’s great. He had two sacks and looked great.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I think in practice this week they’re gonna have us work on how to finish the game strong in the 4th quarter. 402 5105 I feel great right now. The season is about to start and I’m real excited. I’m ready to see how all that hard work in OTA’s, mini-camp, training camp and preseason is gonna work out.  <o:p> </o:p> A couple weeks ago I decided to treat myself after being on a strict diet for about six months. My body was craving some Burger King so I got some one day. I went big, man. I got a triple Whopper, two cheeseburgers, two fish sandwiches, two apple pies and a large soda. With fries of course. It was good.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> The next day wasn’t too good though. I felt pretty sluggish because my body hadn’t had any of that stuff in a long time. For six months I ate all kinds of fruit, vegetables, baked chicken and fish and all that stuff. I took my diet real serious. I think it has helped me get in real good shape for the season. I don’t get as winded as I used to and I feel like I’m in great shape to start the season.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> That Florida State-Miami game made me sick to my stomach too. Man, that was tough. I heard that Bryant McFadden has to wear a Miami jersey after the loss. That’s horrible.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> We get to open up on Monday night, which is pretty special. Every game is important, but there is something about Monday Night Football that is just special. To know that you’re the only game on at that time is a pretty cool thing. It’s just a little bit bigger.<o:p></o:p> <o:p> </o:p> I think it’s good that we’re facing not only a division rival, but also a great defense with really good players in the Chargers. Shawne Merriman and Luis Castillo are two of the more gifted players we as an O-line will face this year. I think it’s a good test to see where we are as a unit. 704 4935 The best thing that has happened since last time I blogged is that we finally broke camp the other day. I made a bet with one of my teammates that I would go until the end of camp without shaving. I did it, but now I got a really scraggly beard and I need to get it cut. It has gotten so long that it was tough fastening my chinstrap at times.  <o:p></o:p> On the field I think things are looking pretty good. The O-Line is going really well right now, better than it has since I've been here. I think it's due to the fact that we have been playing together for a while now. Nothing has been set in terms of who is starting or anything like that though, so no one is safe. We have to finish strong to ensure we get our spots.   <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> This year we have three healthy RBs that will be great for us. Last year one of them was hurt pretty much all the time but the other guys stepped up and had big games in their absence. It's nice to know that whoever is back there will do a great job. We know that whether it's Fargas, McFadden or Bush carrying the ball that if we do our job and block, they will do good things.   <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> A lot of the veterans in the NFL wish the preseason was shorter and that we could go right into the season, but I kinda like the preseason games. It gives me time to work out my kinks and get used to stuff again. When I get older I will probably want a shorter preseason but right now I like the work.   <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> We played our rival across the bay last week and it was crazy. It's always a big deal regardless if it's preseason or not. There are fans of both teams in both cities and we're about five minutes apart. It was like Florida-Florida State all over again.   <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> I know that our team has been in the news the last week or so but to be honest I don't really know anything about the situation. It hasn't been a distraction at all for us and we just want to play football. We got the Saints on Saturday at home. The starters will probably play a half or maybe a little bit into the third quarter. 284 4644 We've only been together for a few days but I can tell that everybody is really excited in Raider camp. It's a new year and we're ready to get started. <o:p> </o:p>  A lot of O-linemen dread coming to camp a little bit because we're bigger guys and it's harder for us to move just in general. Plus we get hit every play down there in the trenches. It's easier to be skinny. Luckily I don't have to chase Nnamdi Asomugha around. The organization is really good about keeping everybody hydrated during camp, though. There is always water nearby whenever you need it. Luckily I've never had any problems with the heat during camp. <o:p></o:p> But for me I have a lot of energy right now. I want to see how all the work I did over the offseason has affected me. I am so in love with the game so I am ready to see how much better I have gotten.<o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> The hard parts of camp are the constant work, but the really good stuff is the teamwork that grows by being together 24/7. During the season it's hard to hang out with everybody because we all have lives. <o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> It's going to be fun pushing around Darrius Heyward-Bey in camp. It's always the first round picks that get picked on the most. I am really looking forward to seeing what he can do for us this year. He had a little injury earlier but he's all healed up and ready to go. Robert Gallery had an emergency appendectomy the other day but I talked to him and he's doing well. Hopefully he's back with us ASAP.<o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> It's been a tough few years for us, but one thing I want to say to Raider Nation is that we won't have any distractions this year. We know who our head coach is and he is great. Plus the team itself is just a lot better. The progression of JaMarcus Russell, Darren McFadden and Zach Miller with the addition of Heyward-Bey makes us a dangerous offense. We think we have a good defense too.<o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> Our division is wide open. There isn't a team out there that you can say 'ok, they're going to win the division so we will be playing for second place.' I think it is very possible for us to take our division this year.<o:p></o:p> <o:p></o:p> I believe our first preseason game is August 13th against the Cowboys. We play the Cowboys in their new stadium during the year and I can't wait to see what that place looks like. I hear it costs a million dollars a day just to keep it going.
